Sometimes a show is bigger than the actors – Iqbal Khan
Actor Iqbal Khan’s track will soon be ending on Waaris. The actor’s character will be killed off in the show soon. Yesterday’s episode of the show saw Iqbal’s character Charan being shot dead amidst a riot sequence and this is how Iqbal’s character will bid adieu to the audience.Â
We contacted Iqbal and quizzed him as to why he took up a character that would end in a few days. He said, “Sometimes you like a storyline so much that you just want to do it. I also want all of my fans to watch the show, even now and also after my exit. It is about an important topic, about the girl child.”
Wasn’t he skeptical about the fact that his character would soon be forgotten in the show? “(laughs) Sometimes, a show is bigger than the actors. And why would I be forgotten? It depends on the hard work that you put in.”Â
The show is based on a traditional custom of Bacha Posh. This is a custom where some families without sons pick a daughter to live and behave as a boy. This enables the child to attend school, escort her sisters in public, and work. This custom also allows the family to avoid the social stigma associated of not having any male children.
